On Dialogue

Dialogue and conversations are means to understand and learn new things. A true dialogue requires space for listening to a perspective/ view/information with a sense of empathy and a sense of appreciation for the other views even-when you disagree with such a view. Dialogue succeed when there is mutual respect and appreciation and trying to be less judgmental and opinionated. Dialogue also requires an ability to listen and learn and express your perspective in conversational rather than confrontational manner. So in the interpersonal communications I prefer dialogue and conversation, though in the public sphere one may make 'public argument'. It took a while for me to understand that arguments for the sake of arguments with another person or group do not necessarily help anyone- as people hardly change their views simply because of another 'arguments. We can disagree with a person without necessarily detesting that person. We can still love a person even when you have significant disagreements. You never win a person through an argument. But you win a lot of people simply through love and silence.
